Those Who Wish Me Dead is based on true events. As snow falls outside the window, Hannah finds herself deep in woods with a killer in mind. This suspense thriller from Focus Features releases on Friday, March 13th. Based on the novel "The Forest of Fear" by author Chris Van Valken, Those Who Wish Me Dead is one of those rare finds...a movie that doesn't feel like it was plucked out of thin air. It's also one of those movies that's worth seeing with every single person in the theater...
Thirty years after the tragic death of their son, a pair of teenage girl friends undertake an investigation into the local murder. Escaped from the safety of their hometown, they make their way into the dangerous world of internet addiction, hoping to find proof of a killer they want to capture. Joining forces with a fellow recovering addict, they quickly become immersed in the strange and compelling world of online obsession and the dark forces that can bring it.
Those Who Wish Me Dead is the latest offering in the wide variety of Van Valken's thrillers that have made their way to movie theaters. Like many of Van Valken's previous novels, Those Who Wish Me Dead follows the story of a murder that happens to involve those who are close to the victim as victims. With strong characters, gripping romance and an excellent plotline, this is a book I would highly recommend to those looking for a satisfying, thrilling story about ghosts, vultures and the unexpected. If you haven't picked up a copy of Those Who Wish Me Dead, you owe it to yourself to check it out.
If you've been waiting to see Those Who Wish Me Dead in either the theaters or on digital download from many online retailers, you may want to wait a while longer to fulfill your desire. That's because the film isn't due for release until October of next year, at least according to Van Valken. Although he hasn't offered any specifics, he indicated that the timing for a movie theater release will likely be contingent upon when he can figure out where he'll record the film. Until then, fans of the supernatural thriller will have to keep their fingers crossed that he maintains the aforementioned October date, which is typically just ahead of summer.
Based upon Van Valken's own life, Those Who Wish Me Dead is the fourth novel he has written in as many years. While he admitted that he had no idea what format he would utilize for his story since he hadn't written anything of any kind in several years, he did admit that he was very eager to write the tale of a young girl who stumbles across a secret worldwide vampire war. Adding to the book's suspense and intrigue is the fact that we won't actually see the heroine from her point-of-view until midway through the book, which occurs a year and a half after the events transpire. However, Van Valken promises that readers will get a pretty good idea of what is going on by the end of June.
Those Who Wish Me Dead is the first of Van Valken's foray into the world of vampires and the first novel he has developed in over seven years. While he isn't expected to create as many successful stories in the future as he has with Those Who Wish Me Dead, there is certainly much to expect from this exciting sophomore effort. As with the other Van Valken novels, those who wish me dead is set to discover an intriguing, modern-day take on a vampire classic, as well as an intricate plot that will leave readers eager for the second book in the series. For those who love to follow vampire myths and wish they were true, This Means War may be just the book for you!
