Night Teeth is one of those rare movie serials that succeeds as a mainstream hit upon release. The movie has been praised by critics, and received warm moviegoer reviews upon its release. This is not surprising considering the fact that the movie follows a plot that is completely appropriate for today's mature viewers. The movie centers on two detectives who investigate the murder of a Chinese business executive.
The movie starts withICO (International Detective Agency), an elite private detective agency that is run by Inspector Sam Haine (James Russo) and his partner, ADA Jane Archer (Sweeney). They are searching for the killer of a Chinese millionaire who disappeared while on vacation in California. Joanna goes to a party where she meets Martin, a cute geek with vampire tendencies. Joanna and Martin become fast friends, and Martin decides to hire Joanna as his date to a fancy club. Shortly thereafter, Joanna falls prey to a vampire who possesses supernatural abilities including the ability to seduce men.
The movie explores several themes including romance, friendship, lust, passion, and the loneliness of young love. It is a romantic comedy that revolves around the romance between a normal human female, and vampire hunter, Martin. It includes quite a number of twists and turns that keep the movie entertained. There are moments when we are left wondering if Joanna's love for Martin is just a fantasy or if her vampire instincts are real. Throughout the movie, we see how Joanna's attraction to vampires is fueled by her envy of the wealthy and powerful Night Witches.
The main characters of the movie include: Joanna's father, Frank, a retired police officer; her mother, Ellen, a well-intentioned but failed philanthropist; and Martin, a nerdy high school student. Martin and Joanna develop a love affair that blossoms into a serious relationship, culminating in their wedding at the foot of the Grand Canyon. Then Joanna falls in love with a human named Arturo, who has vampire night teeth. A vampire named Sid enters an unsecured hotel room and begins a sexual affair with Joanna. Later, Joanna's curiosity about vampires leads her to an ancient vampire cave where she meets a boy named Ben, who has a mysterious past.
Night Teeth follows the daily life of three college students in the Los Angeles area, as they become acquainted with the dark side of human nature and meet some interesting characters. These include: a boy named Ben, a girl named Joanna, and a vampire named Sid. Although not entirely realistic, the characters portrayed in the film make some very good common sense comments and observations about our culture. They help to bring entertainment to a new level. As someone mentioned on the official Night Teeth website, the film should "vent this tired debate about the validity of Nightlife".
One thing that I thought was very realistic about Night Teeth is that even though the vampire genre has been around for many years, it seems like vampires are still an up and coming breed of person. This could be because there are many famous vampire movie stars in the Los Angeles area like Ed Norton and Morgan Freeman. Another reason why I think Night Teeth is a great movie is that it contains strong messages about teenage love and the process of getting into adulthood. It also addresses many societal issues including the age gap between the old and young, and the difference between people of different cultures and races. Overall, Night Teeth is a fun and entertaining vampire movie. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great vampire film!
