New Gods: Nezha is a modern myth that is set during the time of the Ming Dynasty. Unlike most other forms of ancient Chinese literature, Nezha is more action based than story telling. The plot of New Gods: Nezha is a story of two brothers who fall in love with a young girl, Qi Lan. However, their parents do not support their relationship, and the parents of one of the brothers joins the opposing forces of the imperial family.
New Gods: Nezha reborn is not connected to the upcoming 2021 movie Nezha; however, both movies are from different production studios and have different distribution partners. New Gods: Nezha reborn actually began production before Nezha did, although the directors have come from different genres of movie making. Both movies are based on the famous novel The Divine Comedy byenser Loeper. Some of the movie's key concepts include reincarnation, fairy tales, gods, and magic. Based on this novel, the Nezha characters have various transformations.
Based on Loeper's original novel, New Gods: Nezha reborn has been made by the Wanda Yeh, who is best known for her martial arts movies such as The Secret; the sequel to The Forbidden Kingdom. New Gods: Nezha reborn is expected to be a high ticket selling Chinese box office hit, and it will most likely become one of the most popular characters from Chinese Culture in the coming years. The combination of an action-filled screenplay, Chinese elements, and Christian themes make this a definite must see movie role for the upcoming Chinese New Year. This will be the year when Chinese people will begin celebrating the return of the divine Dragon, the wisp of smoke that was once held by the ancient emperors to control the winds.
Chinese film industry has produced a number of high profile, award winning movies over the past few years. Most recently, Wanda and colleagues from Miracle worker Media Co. have acquired the rights to develop a live-action TV series based on New Gods: Nezha reborn. The project is being produced for launching during the Chinese New Year, which falls on February 14, 2021. Chinese Animation professionals and Wanda are targeting to launch the series before the end of the next Chinese New Year.
According to insiders, the project will have an animated story that follows the journey of a young girl named Shen Li who lives in the bamboo forest with her foster family and fellow orphan, Huang Qi. When the girl witnesses a violent murder committed by a local gang of delinquents, she flees to a nearby town where an investigation discovers that the culprit was involved in an ancient legend of power called the "Book of Seven Wonders". The powerful book can only be handled by someone with exceptional physical and mental capabilities. As a result, Shen Li flees across the country in search for help. However, when she arrives in the town of Hong Kong, she realizes that she cannot travel outside of the city until she gains the book. So she does find solace in the arms of Dr. Wanda, the sole supplier of the Book of Seven Wonders located in the Hong Kong area.
Could Nezha be what the Chinese animation industry is waiting for? The novel investiture is reportedly very popular among Chinese nationals, and Wanda and company are banking on that fact to launch the series successfully this year. If the project progresses according to plan, we could soon be seeing a number of new gods from the land of Chinese animation hit the big screen. What do you think about Nezha reborn?
