The movie, Judas and the Black Messiah are a new movie coming out from the production house Fox Films. It is written by Dan Gilroy and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Dan Aykroyd, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter. Directed by Tom Hooper, the movie has received warm movie reviews from movie critics and audiences. The movie is based on the book written by Thomas Levenstein and based on the teachings of the Jesus and the Buddha.
In the movie, Judas is a loyalist of Rome and he is sent to his death by the Emperor, whom he considers as a close friend. But his life will be changed forever when he learns that he is the chosen one who can save the Godlike in his army. His greatest obstacle in the way is Antonia who wants to kill him but he manages to flee from her. Later, she learns that she was his wife in truth.
There are many elements in this movie that make it more interesting and appealing to viewers. First is the story of the man who wants to betray God, Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. As the story goes, he would have married Mary but changed his mind when she did not support him in his quest to become God. He then becomes a priest, holding the title of High Priest. In the novel, he tries to convert an already Roman woman, Annulonia. With the help of his friends, he finally gets her to change her mind but in the process, he kills her.
Now, let us move on to the movie itself. I must say that I was expecting a little less from the novel. But even if I was not expecting too much, I still enjoyed the movie. The movie starts with an ancient religious debate which takes place between Jesus and Pontius Pilate. The followers of Jesus are the people of Israel and the Roman citizens. The Christians have gathered for a synod at Jerusalem and are about to be executed by Pontius Pilate.
The movie then portrays Jesus Christ's teachings and how he relates to the people at the synod. We know that at this point in time, there were no computers or digital cameras so the movie portrays the people's emotions through his voice. We know that Pontius Pilate was a very confused man and had a difficult time deciding what to do. Finally, the Roman governor tells him to choose between hanging on to Judas or choosing the leader of the Jews, Jesus. Judas chose Jesus and was crucified along with his brother Joseph. The movie ends with Judas being thrown into the lake to be devoured by wild animals.
Overall, the movie had a very dramatic and intense ending but does not carry much meaning for the audience. For that reason, I recommend giving the movie a try because it may be worth your time and money. There are some decent movies about Judas and the Black Messiah online but I can never find anything entertaining that I have not seen before. I will continue to search for more movies like this but for now, I recommend Birth of A God.
