Throughout the miniseries, she learns to think critically, to pursue excellence in school and to seek out opportunities in her unique field. Her resolve inspires others to follow their own dreams.

The storyline is told through the point-of-view of Michael Scott, an African American man who works as a waiter in a popular restaurant. Michael lives with his cousin Emmett and his wife Minh, a waitress. Michael's cousin is the star of the mini-series, Marlon, who goes on a crazy adventure trying to help Michael achieve his American Dream. Marlon starts out in no particular order, working odd jobs and getting into trouble, until he manages to get his cousin a job as a rickshaw driver. The subsequent trouble that comes from trying to pay off exorbitant debt leads him to break down and fall into depression.

As the story unfolds, Michael realizes that he has to take a risk in order to advance himself in life. He knows that if he does not succeed, he will lose everything that he has worked so hard to obtain. Consequently, he knows he must take a chance and try something new, in order to give himself the best opportunity to succeed.
