For those who don't know, The Witches of East End is an award winning British film directed by Guy Pierce. If you like witches, or witches' parties, then I'm sure you will enjoy The Witches of East End.
Our three main characters are Alice (Alice Eve), the youngest of four sisters, has been sent to live with her grandmother and aunt in a boarding school, The Clacton Academy for Girls. The school is run by Mr. Willem Clacton, who is played by Tim Robbins. Alice's mother is played by Judith Hill, while Alice's father is played by Ian McKellen.
Alice soon finds out that she is being forced into a marriage to Mr. Willem, and as a result of this, she gets involved with two boys she only really liked when she was younger, Michael (Mark Strong) and Martin (Drew Powell). Meanwhile, the other three sisters, Mary (Liv Hewitt) and her husband John (Philip Seymour Hoffman), have fallen in love with Michael, but Alice is determined to stay friends with Martin and Mr. Willem. But when their friendship becomes too much for Alice, she finds out that she is more than just a friend to them and ends up moving in with them, while also having a secret crush on Michael.
This makes Martin and Alice's relationship all the more interesting because it puts Michael and Alice at odds. Alice tries to save her relationship with Michael from falling apart, but he isn't willing to give up on his dream of becoming an opera singer.
But Alice finds her own happiness and joy, even though she is forced into a marriage with someone she doesn't want. She manages to make a new life for herself, but after the wedding, she learns that she was the one who was forced into the marriage.
Although Alice is the most interesting of the witches, she is not the most likable of the witches. Her family is mean and abusive, and she is constantly told that she is ugly and worthless.
However, Drew Powell (Philip Seymour Hoffman) makes her look great. He does a very good job of portraying Alice as a person with good intentions who finds herself caught up in bad situations.
In addition, Alice's sister Mary turns out to be an accomplished artist who paints beautifully. They become close and the story goes on to reveal the real reason why Alice went into a marriage, her true love. It is hard to believe that she was the only one forced into a marriage, but it turns out to be. her sister, who married him.
The Witches of East End is a wonderful film that won't disappoint anyone who watches it. And I'm sure you will enjoy watching it as much as I did.
