There are a number of different forms of binding in the book world, but The Binding is arguably one of the most popular forms. Whether it be a bound hardback, paperback or eBook, the Binding is by far the most common type and the most popular among readers as well. Here, I will explain some of the different types of binding and give some examples of each.
The Standard Hardback - This is the most traditional type of binding, and for good reason. As the name implies, the binding on standard hardbacks uses staples to hold the two pages together. Some companies will use three or four staples, while others will have the pages held together with just two. In any case, there are staples that will work for a standard hardback, so you should be able to find a few out there that match your tastes.
Cover: This is where the cover of your hardback book is attached. Usually, this is where all of your information on the book is placed. If your book has maps and pictures, the cover can be removed and used for another copy. However, if you want to hide information, such as the back of your book or a review by a professional, the cover is usually glued to the front. For example, the back covers of novels usually go on the left side of the books, while the covers of books often go on the right side.
Foil Binding: As the name suggests, foil binding is similar to what you see on movie posters. You typically will use foil tape, or the foil binding itself. However, you may use other materials, such as paper strips, or even special textured paper.
Spiral binding: This type of binding is a little more difficult than the standard binding. Basically, you will glue each of the book's pages together in a spiral shape. These books will often look like a cross between a puzzle and a quilt. It's important to make sure that the pages are tightly bound together so that the spiral can't come undone, although some books are bound in such a way that you can pull out the pages when they get too loose.
Book Wrap: Book Wraps are a great way to display your book. They make the book look much better and give you a place to put pictures or other information about the book, as well. A simple book wrap will make your book look much more attractive.
