From the very beginning of the Preacher series, an interesting trend has emerged. In fact, it has been clear that fans of this show have been seeking to create their own versions of the show's plots, characters and subplots based on the Internet.
The latest film in the Bad Trip trilogy called The Kids is not your usual prequel. The trailers, depicting the story line of the gang's "twins" are set for release, sometime this month. This time, the project is based on a different Preacher character.
The movie stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, who happens to be one of the teenage twins of God himself. He is more than willing to do whatever he can to keep the gang together, but when he is framed for murder, he is forced to get involved with a corrupt businessman named Cassidy (the awesome Dylan O'Brien). Jesse becomes caught up in an international incident that may alter the course of history.
In the novel's life of Custer, he is a fallen man. While it was unclear at first what exactly went wrong with the character, the body count from the post-apocalyptic carnage kept growing. Now, as he wakes up after a coma and is given his orders by his arch-nemesis, he realizes that he has not the strength to fight against an army of ex-soldiers who want to execute everyone who is still alive. He needs help.
In the novel, the story takes place before The Preacher series starts, and while the two stories are clearly connected, the movie takes place during the events of the Preacher TV series. As you can imagine, the old gang doesn't make an appearance in the film at all. However, the purpose of the movie is to show a different side of Custer and Cassidy, and if you are a fan of the comics, you will find the film to be a good place to start if you are interested in learning more about the characters of the comic.
The Movie adaptation of The Preacher's Son in the Preacher series may be dark, but it is not as dark as the actual story line of the series. For example, Jesse is sent back in time to prevent his death and also to prevent the massacre that occurs before the end of the Preacher series. As such, the movie will have a different, lighter ending than the TV series did.
The Preacher television series revolves around the Catholic priesthood and the power struggles that they have with those in charge of Church. But since the book was set in modern times, the characters in the film will be quite different from those who appear in the Preacher comics. Instead of the TV series' drug addicted Cassidy, we will have a white-collar criminal, a gay prostitute, and even a couple of lesbian nuns who join the army of the evil Pope to cleanse the world of sinners.
Unfortunately, no one really knows what the future holds for the series and the movies, but there is no doubt that The Bad Trip would be an excellent choice for anyone who is a fan of the original comic series. The film is sure to entertain the older crowd as well as the younger ones, so take a look at this as something of a sequel to Preacher. It's a fun adventure.
