The second part of the Secret in Their Eyes was released by online rental services on the same day as the first part of the film, The Killer Inside. Movie renting stores have been scouring the Internet for a copy of The Secret in Their Eyes to rent as soon as possible, hoping to capitalize on this film's success and fuel their own sales.
The plot of the second part of the Secret in Their Eyes is the same as the first one, but with minor changes, and the conclusion of the series is very different from what the first movie left us with. The first movie left us with an ending that we could not see coming, and the second movie leaves us with something much bigger than we could have imagined. So I guess it is good that we now know what will happen in the sequel.
In the first part of the film, the characters of Kris and Marlowe come across a dead body lying on the street in front of the stage of the show. When they call for help, Kris is shown running away with a trash bag and Marlowe is seen standing still behind Kris. The garbage man then asks Kris why he is running away. Kris answers, "It's just too weird, the last person I saw was Kris."
At the end of the movie, we are shown the trash bag, which is later found with the body lying on the street outside of the show. The cover of the bag reads "MELFA FLO." This stands for a type of herb called melaleuca.
In the second part of the movie, Mifa and Melfa finally get together after a lot of struggle. This involves them first breaking into the house of one of the actresses (the female lead) and stealing a bunch of expensive jewelry and money. They then return to their rented house, where they tell their parents and friends about the robbery. They then take the opportunity to finally settle their differences and get their chance at being together.
The fact that both of these parts of the movie were released on the same day means that they both got a huge boost from the first installment of the Secret in Their Eyes series. Other movies like Little Miss Sunshine and Fast Times at Ridgemont High also had great box office chances because of a similar outcome - they all become popular hits because they are related to a popular hit movie of the past few years.
Despite the success of the second movie, the main writers of the series are not likely to make another sequel to the Secret in Their Eyes franchise, as they were no longer attached to the series and they were rather busy doing other things. The next installment of the series will be directed by Ben Wheatley, who will also be involved in directing a third film of the series, which is set for release in September.
Hopefully we will get a sequel to the Secret in Their Eyes soon, if only because the previous one was so well done that it gave us a new look on what our lives would be like if our life was a movie. Hopefully with the three movies already planned, I can start to picture a movie where everything happens in two weeks or less, but until then, it is good to know that the "big thing" of a series' popularity can be felt in a couple of short films.
