The Spy Who Loved Me is a film based on the French book of the same name by Michel Faber. The Spy Who Loved Me, unlike the popularly known story, is based on the book titled Spy Who Slew For Love. Both books were published in the 1930s and both are about a spy who is employed by the British Government and also who uses his powers for good ends.
The book Spy Who Slew For Love, which is an autobiographical work, was first published in Italy in 1947. The following year, Faber wrote a sequel entitled Spy Who Placed In Mystery. In this book, the author mentions that he wrote these two books to help him get out of poverty and to find love.
The Lovely Novel by Michel Faber was turned into a film in 1979, starring Paul Scofield and Jennifer Connelly. The movie is a comedy that has its share of international box office success.
The movie is a cartoon-like one, which shows the events from different perspectives of the story. The film starts with the relationship between Harry and Mary and ends with her untimely death. In between, she falls in love with a secret agent named Louis Blokeshot. The whole film is very entertaining and contains numerous and unique visual effects that will take your breath away.
Movie reviews often show the action of the movie. This review is not an objective one, but a subjective one. Movies are like battles between good and evil; therefore it can never be a review where both the negative and positive aspects of the movie are reviewed.
The movie takes place in the 1950s and if you think that there are no more spies in disguise, you are wrong. There are still a number of spies in disguise, one of whom is an ex-spy named Angel who works for the British Security Service. In fact, he was formerly known as Merlin in disguise.
You will enjoy the fun and adventure of the movie when you understand that the people in this time period are not so sensitive to good looks. They simply love and admire someone because of his intelligence and loyalty.
This review is my own opinion. I did not rate the movie highly, because I find it a simple one. However, the movie and the writer are great sources of entertainment.
