Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dre is an all new spin on the classic animated series Rascal. Directed by the award-winning duo of Mike De Luca and Tim Burton, the movie promises to be the low point of their long successful career together. But can Burton's reputation to be what it takes for the project to live up to expectations and has become a hit in the years to come? Find out after we take a look at some plot details and basic summaries.
Rascal does not dream of a Dre, instead it is up to an unlikely pair of teenage twins (Drew Barrymore and Jason Segal) to help a robot janitor find his way home. This adventure is presented via the online community of Reddit where the public can pose questions and participate in the answers. The movie became immensely popular after a Reddit user posted a question asking if there was any chance that a female character could romance a male character in the film.
The movie revolves around two separate stories. The first is centered around the story of Santa and his reindeer, Fluffy. The boy, who runs a think tank where Santa works asks them to help create a snow ornament for his annual gift bag sale to raise money for a charity. Meanwhile, Olaf the Elf from the Gingerbread Man franchise comes back as a Christmas-themed prankster to rob Santa and leave him with a big hole in his wallet. The boys are tasked to help him find a new means of transportation while avoiding him for five hours while they're trying to get the snowman into the Impala. The second part of the story involves Santa and Mrs. Clause taking the unusual step of getting Rascal (Jason Segal) and Fluffy to help them with their Christmas gift-gifting plans while secretly placing them under surveillance so that the police are not aware of their scheme.
Part one ends with Santa and his reindeer having to make way for a recently rescued reindeer because of the greedy owner who's made it difficult for them to transport the animal without him damaging the car. Mrs. Clause gives Rascal a snowman that he names Brodie-to-Beau, but when she realizes that it's too early for the gift to be delivered, she decides to keep her daughter away from the holiday festivities to avoid too much of a mess. Meanwhile, Rascal and Brodie are making plans to break out into Santa's sleigh but they are stopped by the police when they notice a suspicious-looking vehicle near the celebration. Santa then sends the boys on their way with the help of snowballs and the gift of love, along with telling them that Santa can't make it to them this year because of financial problems.
Part two follows the same plot as in the first chapter, except that Rascal and Brodie finally manage to get into Santa's sleigh, where they are welcomed by the great White Witch. The Witch offers them a chance to win the eternal Christmas prize, but before they can do so, the entire townspeople surrounds them forcing Santa and his reindeers to flee for fear of further trouble. When they come back, however, the Witch has transformed herself into a very beautiful young girl who wants Rascal and Brodie to promise her that they will visit her home for Christmas so she can give them the gift of eternal life. The trio vows to her, and the three of them share a kiss before leaving.
Rascal doesn't dream of a Dre - that's a great detail that wasn't even touched upon in the movie. Instead, the main characters simply seem to walk into a perfect holiday movie, complete with a great Christmas light fight, snowmen delivering gifts, and lots of candy canes for kids to run and jump on. The movie is filled with great holiday songs, which explains its worldwide popularity. As an example, one of the Christmas songs includes a rendition of "O Holy Night", which is appropriate for this particular holiday. That song was also used in the famous Disney film "The Nightmare Before Christmas" as well as the Tim Burton movie "Alice in Wonderland".
