This film is another installment in the award winning The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. The movie stars Johnny Depp as SpongeBob Squarepants, as well as Kate Micucci, Megan Fox, and Chelsey Crisp. The story focuses on a nautical school for the rich and famous, where SpongeBob ends up taking a course under the guidance of Squilliam Fancyson. This class teaches students to learn the basic skills of being an ocean engineer, but it's the only course that's open to them because they're all billionaires who inherited their wealth.
The plot of the film begins when Patrick, the head chef at the nautical school, wants to design a dish to impress Mrs. Puff. Unfortunately, he doesn't know how to make jellyfish stew properly. This causes a major loss of business for Mr. Krabs, so he hires SpongeBob to design a dish for him, because he believes that Mr. Krabs will appreciate the work he does. The next day, Mr. Krabs tells him that he knows what to do with jellyfish stew, but SpongeBob has no idea, so he ends up doing a bad job.
When Squidward, the cook at the Krusty Krab, sees that Squidward did a bad job, he insults him and attacks him, saying that Squidward was paid by Mrs. Puff and is on a secret mission. SpongeBob then realizes that Mr. Krabs is under a spell and ends up solving the mystery of how he's been under it. The next day, Mr. Krabs gets fired from his job, and Squidward wonders why this happened. He later figures out that Mr. Krabs is actually under the spell of a curse that comes from a particular potion. The next day, he attempts to help SpongeBob get rid of the curse, but ends up destroying one of his most important inventions, which SpongeBob believes will be his downfall.
In order to get rid of the curse, Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob, along with Squidward, head to a witchcraft shop where they need to cast a spell that can get rid of the spells that the spell-casting shopkeeper, Madame Poncho, is using to prevent him from performing his regular work. Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob get caught in the middle of the business and must either get rid of the spell or stay for Madame Poncho to get her revenge. A sorcerer named Mr. K. tells Mr. Krabs that his curse is only temporary, which leads him to believe that the only way to cure the problem is by getting rid of Madame Poncho. The next day, the two have to face Madame Poncho and cast a spell to remove the curse, but first they have to remove the magicians' talisman from the basement.
The magicians are highly popular actors in Hollywood, who has appeared in such movies as It's a Wonderful Life, Little Women, and Breakfast at Tiffany's. During the course of the film, they take the audience on a journey through time and space. They appear in flashbacks throughout the movie. They also have interesting nicknames, including the King of Hearts (Gummi) and the Trixie T. (Trixie T-ray). Because of their popularity, they are represented by a team of designers and costume designers.
The band that appears during the first act is the French Fry Orchestra, a group composed of Squidward, Sandy, Mr. Krabs, Patrick, and Plankton. They provide the music for the film, which is very catchy and fun. For the other songs, they chose songs that were popular in the early nineties. They also chose songs that have a specific meaning, such as "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Eat It," which has a song that says "You're a Hotter Guy," and "Anything Can Happen," which says "Anywhere at Anytime."
One of the star attractions during the final act is "The Shrinking Violet," a comedy routine by Eugene Levy, who starred in A Fish Called Wanda and The Jerk People. The routine also appears in several episodes of the series, including "Closing Time"SpongeBob Rocks." During the final numbers, they perform a number of comedy routines, including SpongeBob's "Worst Routine Ever," "Worst Pops" (which includes musical numbers), and the "Ain't No Resting in Space" routine.
