From the New York Film Critics Circle comes word that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the second in the Twilight Saga movies, is an excellent watch. The movie itself follows on from Twilight Saga, End of Days, and really just throws more fuel on the fire with a little more angst and a lot more wacky situations. It's not like the last three had that much to them anyway, but they are still better than most people realize.
Given the kind of movie that it is, it's very easy to see why the first Twilight Saga was such a hit. In some ways, the books had already become such a phenomenon that the first film couldn't have come along and been any less successful.
With the second film, it would be safe to say that Amethyst and Edward were each more fully developed than ever before. Gone are the dull moments where they seem to just have nothing in common, and instead we see them fight for their place and grow closer to each other throughout the entire movie.
Again, the Twilight Saga is about love, and despite what happened in the previous films, this one has changed that. We see more of the romance between them, but also have to contend with their personal battles that come with that.
The romance has been so blatant in previous books that it's been very easy to forget how much of a time consuming and stressful relationship can be, and how there are plenty of issues to deal with in any kind of relationship. And the way the two characters manage to work through these issues in this movie does a lot for the overall drama of the story.
With the third book, there was no way to put it in the series since it wasn't part of the movie tie-in trilogy, but this is actually a far better movie than the first two in the series. There is less direct conflict in this one, and more about just them growing together.
When you are comparing the movie to the books, it is obviously not going to be quite as good, and there is some major changes. It's not even close to being the same as the Twilight Saga movie with the end.
But at least with this new film, we see more of Bella, Edward, and the relationships that they are faced with between each book in the Twilight Saga. And it's a far more hopeful ending to a rather tragic story.
