The latest film in the Harry Potter series sees Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), back for his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Goblet of Fire has been changed, however, and now instead of being guarded by a troll, it now belongs to Professor Umbridge. There's also a scheduled tournament between the three main schools of magic, where one player is chosen by the Goblet of Fire from among those who have not tasted the dark arts, and Harry Potter himself is the champion. When Harry's name is chosen, although he's not eligible to compete, and is actually a last-minute participant, he has to compete in what's called the Triwizard Tournament, risking his life against three other competitors who are recognized as the most powerful wizards in the world.

The first task in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is to arrive at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry at the start of the movie. This scene takes place some four months before the main events of the movie take place, in early September, while the school is still in its formative stages. Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, Hermione Granger, and Harry Potter himself race around the grounds in anticipation of the opening of the school. They each carry their unique characteristics and strengths and use them to overcome the obstacles that they face along the way. The first task is to locate the ancient Goblet of Fire, which is kept hidden in a large marble safe.
Ron Weasley, who is a third year student at Hogwarts, finds the ancient Goblet and takes it with him on his trip, along with a Time Turner. During the trip, he and Harry Potter come across some unexpected obstacles, such as Rubeus Hagrid's basilisk, diagon alley, a Quidditch match, and accidental triggering of unicorn droves. Ron wins the Quidditch match after Harry Potter accidentally triggers the ground right beneath the two students, causing them to dive head first into a large stone formation. Luckily, Ron and Harry are pulled out of the hole by a basilisk and they manage to escape.
The second task of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire involves finding out who might have given the gold coin to Dumbledore. Ron and Harry manage to follow Credicus Flitwick and Filius Flitwick, but they are caught by an Auror before they can get very far. The trio is transported to the Ministry of Magic, where they meet the ancient aureus Albus Dumbledore.
Finally, the third task comes when Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire reunite with Hermione, Ron, and Harry. They are told that they have won the school quiz but are stunned when Dumbledore arrives and reveals that not only had they won the school quiz, but that three dark wizards had tried to poison them and steal the Golden Egg. Dumbledore then uses his powerful magic to reverse the effects of the potion and the three of them are released. The three of them then defeat the evil wizard Gampymortons and release the rest of the students from Gampymorton's magically controlled wand. The four of them then return to Hogwarts castle and are reunited with everyone else.
