The Empire Strikes Back is a film which was released in 1977. It is set in the time after Return of the Jedi, so it seems to be part of the prequel trilogy. The film is a retelling of the story of the original Star Wars, with some changes and additions to the story. The story follows a group of rebel heroes, along with their conflict against the evil Galactic Empire.
One of the key differences that this movie has from the original Star Wars is that it is set after the events of A New Hope. The Empire Strikes Back took place thirty years after the end of Return of the Jedi. The film will deal with the events that happened to the group in the intervening time. The Emperor's removal from power following the Battle of Endor is a major plot point in this movie. This allows Luke Skywalker and friends to return to their home planet and carry on the fight against the Empire.
Another important plot point of the movie is the struggle between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Vader becomes the villain of the movie as he is heavily influenced by the dark side of the Force and the Emperor is defeated in his first confrontation with Luke Skywalker. Both characters are heavily linked to each other and each have their own plots. Luke wants to become a Jedi, while Vader wants to be a Sith Lord.
The first time the characters meet each other is when they confront each other on the Death Star, where they are confronted by their respective Grand Masters. While each is trying to gain an advantage over the other, neither really prevails. Their confrontation is also one of the main points of the movie. Each character is able to gain a bit of revenge from the other.
The Death Star is one of the central figures in the movie. It is the big bad of the series and has huge repercussions for the characters. The Death Star is the main means of attack of the Rebels, and they must destroy it before they can complete their mission.
An Imperial shuttle plays a major plot device in the film. It carries a group of Rebels away from their base on Yavin. It seems that the Rebel Alliance is unaware of what is taking place. They destroy the shuttle before it can escape, and it is then destroyed by its captain. This makes it seem like the entire Rebel fleet is destroyed, but it is the shuttle that actually transports the Rebels to their base.
Another plot point in the film series is the search for Princess Leia. She is fleeing from the Empire and the major plot point of the movie is her attempt to escape her ship and jump to light speed. Luke uses a tractor beam to pull her up, but then she manages to get out of the starship and travels to one of the planets.
This movie was a huge success, earning $400 million worldwide. It has also received three Academy Award nominations, for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Writing for Screenplay. George Lucas, who directed The Empire Strikes Back, and returned to the director's chair for Return of the Jedi, was given the best director award at the film's 40th anniversary.
